Pennsylvania’s Sugarhouse Gambling establishment stirs up controversy?

The casino that has been within the works for the Delaware River, the Sugarhouse Casino, opened its gates. Only five gaming licenses were issued by the state in 2006. The idea of a casino is not loved by everyone. Some opponents say the billions of dollars of taxes don’t make up for the risk. Some groups who have been speaking resistant to the casino are now planning on ways to reduce business at the new facility.

The Sugarhouse Gambling establishment encounters powerful opposition

From the day HSP Gaming, L.P. was granted a gaming license by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, residents have expressed concern. Community groups have debated heavily resistant to the casino. The Northern Liberties Neighbors Association and Philadelphia Neighborhood Alliance have both expressed definite concern about the strategies for the Sugarhouse Casino. One group held a service with candles outside the casino on opening night. This service was designed to bring attention to those that may face a gambling problem.

Sugarhouse Casino guarantees monetary development

Though there has been a strong lobby against the Sugarhouse Casino, most residents of Fishtown, where the casino is located, are happy to see the casino opened. The casino has already provided almost $ 200,000 to be used for anything from veteran’s services to schools. The Sugarhouse Gambling establishment employment rolls have already been padded with over 900 people.

Future plans for the Sugarhouse Casino

The gambling establishment is smaller than the original strategies involved, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t big plans. The Sugarhouse Gambling establishment has three more expansions planned for the long term. This new gambling establishment is going to be the faced with many challenges. Anyone who has campaigned resistant to the Sugarhouse Gambling establishment will try and dissuade individuals from going to the business. Though most are concerned about this new “dangerous friend,” the industrial-area casino may very well prove to be a badly needed monetary stimulation.
